José Galeote
Great-grandson and grandson of artists of varietés of the Parallel’s theatres of Barcelona in his golden age, on the one hand, and descendant of a dynasty of andalusian writers of the other one, José Galeote becomes multidisciplinary artist with special attention to the composition of music concert. He studied at the Conservatori de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, with Sergi Vicente and with the composer and guitarist Jaume Torrent.
As a performer he has performed in several concert series and festivals both nationally and internationally and has premiered works by composers such as Glòria Villanueva, Jaume Torrent, Manel Ribera and Quim Perera.
He has participated in several recordings for diferent record labels such as La Produktiva Récords and Ars Armónica/La mano de Güido, with which he has released his first monographic CD “Poniente”, a selection of his most outstanding chamber works.
As a composer he has received several commissions, to mention some of the most important ones, from the Salzburg Guitar Trio (Germany), the Duo Villa-Lobos (Colombia), the Festival y Certamen Internacional Llobet (Spain), the Huston Guitar Festival (USA), the Orquesta de Guitarras (Spain), the Orquesta de Guitarras (Spain), and the Orquesta de la Música (Spain). His music is frequently performed by soloists, ensembles, chamber music groups and choral groups in Europe and America.
He has been invited to the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu, to the UNED University extension courses in Madrid, and to Tulane University in New Orleans to give lectures on transcription adapted to the guitar, as well as several times to give talks on the “Symbiosis between the composer and the performer during the creative process” at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) by Professor Manel Ribera, and at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) as a member of the cultural project Bacchanalia.
He has won the second prize of the organ composition competition “Bienvenido Socías” 2019 and the second prize of the guitar composition competition “Fidelio” 2020, and Fidelio 2022.
His music is characterised by a strong polyphonic character as well as a marked taste for colour as an expressive tool, resulting in an architecture in which the vertical and the horizontal cohabit in hierarchical equality, in a delicate symbiosis between direction and colour. This structure gives rise to a polyphonic style framed in an open tonality, but in constant research of a tonal centre, a centre of gravity that is somehow always present, but never completely there, generating a fluid discourse and a solid structural balance.
It has received very good reviews from important professionals in the guitar and composing sector:
“Nice music, pleasant, well conceived and written” Angelo Gilardino, Guitarist, Musicologist and composer.
-In Ponente, which is the name given to this album, we find an elegant repertoire, with a lot of musicality and a really beautiful sound, performed in an exquisite way”. Melómano Magazine.
-Often, after a romantic and intimate fragment, his discourse becomes disturbing, questioning, sometimes even obstinate, sometimes desolate, using a contemporary language. In these contrasts lies the interest of these compositions resulting from contemplation and a slightly dreamlike reverie, interpreted with an impeccably clear technique”. Sinfonía Virtual magazine.
He has been a guitar and chamber music teacher for more than eighteen years and is currently a guitar teacher at the professional conservatory of La Creu Alta, as well as being a guitar teacher and chamber music teacher at the Escuelas Pías in Sabadell. He has also been artistic coordinator of the Llobet composition competition since 2020, as well as secretary of the Llobet performance competition, also since 2020.
